I have recently seen it stated that Micro$oft intends to officially
retire Windows XP Home Edition when their new Longhorn release comes
out in 2006.

What does that mean exactly, does that imply that they will no longer
issue updates, or submit updates already issued? Does it mean that when
the magic date hits your system no longer exists in the eyes of M$? Or
does that simply mean all of the above?
If all of the above are true what really irks me about this whole thing
is that the poor consumer sap, like me, who recently purchased a system
will find his XP Home OS no longer supported by M$. Does not seem right
to me. I mean think about this, a guy buy's a PC say in 2005, only to
find out it is no longer supported in 2006? Better yet lets take that
one step further, a guy buys a PC in early 2006, and when late 2006
arrives,(assuming a target release date for longhorn here
), he will
have to run the OS without updates, or support? Am I the only one who
thinks this is total nonsense?
