windows xp not responding quickly after bootup

My windows xp not responding quickly after bootup.. whenever i start
windows xp up and i click on my desktop icon, it takes a few mins for it
to react and open it..

and my windows xp is a clean install i did too.

.Did you check for errors and defragment / you might

have to many programs that start at boot up...best not to
elect more than one or two programs to start at boot up
when you install them
