I am using windows xp HE on both my laptop and my PC, I managed to
establish a home network between the two,using ethernet cable, but I
don't seem able to access my DVD-R drive on my laptop, despite the
fact that I have made it sharable using my drive properties, so every
time I try to access it, I get a message that I don't have permission
to access \\laptop\D "something of this king".
any help will be appreciated.

Yup - sharing a CD/DVD across a net requires some third-party software;
Windows does not, by itself, completely support sharing CDs or DVDs
across a net.
