Windows XP MCE-2002, DST and SP2

It’s my understanding that Windows Media Center 2002 with Service Pack 1
cannot take the Service Pack 2 update. The last time I tried to do an
update, everything proceeded and then toward the end, I got an error
message that said NO ACCESS, and then the SP2 installation uninstalled.

I am asking because my time is off because of the DST issue and I can’t
fix it without the SP2 update.

If anyone knows of any workarounds that don’t require SP2, I would
certainly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Windows Media Center 2002 with SP1 is totally able to accept and run Service
Pack 2 , in fact by installing SP2 on a Media Center 2002 computer it will
automatically upgrade your Media Center edition to the 2004 edition. So after
install you will have a XP SP2 with MC 2004. Since you had problems before
installing SP2 , I suggest you make sure that your computer is free from
Spyware/Adware/Malware all that great stuff ( a couple of good free programs
are Spybot Search & Destroy/AdAware/Windows Defender) also make sure you have
checked for virus/worms (Norton/Avg/Macfee). Also please check with your
manufactures website to see if they have any updates available that would be
applicable to your model in regards to installing SP2. Oh and don't forget to
make sure your video/tuner card/audio drivers are all up to date. These are
all things that can potentially make your upgrade a smoother experience, I
hope they help if not we can try and help you here and another great source
for help and info is www.thegreenbutton.com
lot's of great help on there as well.

Not sure what the SP2 problem is, but as I recall, you should be able to
apply SP2 to MCE 2002, in fact I think it would bring your version up to MCE
2004 when you did that.
