I scanned my hard drive with norton antivirus 2003. The
backdoor sinit virus was detected and removed according
to symantec website. I rebooted the pc and the log in
screen appears and I choose a user to log on but it logs
me right off and i cannot get windows xp pro to load..any
help?

Did you remember to turn off system restore before the removal?

Try starting in Safe Mode and make sure you followed ALL the
instructions to get rid of the virus.

Or boot to command prompt (hit <f8> when you see the horizontal bar
showing XP starting to load, and pick Safe Mode with Command prompt) and
then make sure that SVCINIT.EXE has been completely removed from your
system.

And KEEP YOUR VIRUS DEFINITIONS UP-TO-DATE (unless you like, ya know,
having your credit card available for the world to use, and things like
that.) You might also start thinking about what you download from the
Internet, and just how "safe" that is.

Won't boot in safe mode with command prompt. Last thing
I did was delete DC5.exe which was infected then rebooted
and this happened. any other ideas. I did not turn off
system restore. It gets the the welcome logon menu and
when i choose a user it logs me back off in 2 seconds. I
cant get into the Windows OS at all.

See answer above. Please post to the same thread.
