Windows XP Login

When I start up Windows XP, it requires me to click on a user name to
proceed. I have only one user name and want XP to immediately bring up the
desktop without requiring me to click on my user name. How do I disable this
feature and bypass this extra step?

Go to Start -> Run.
Copy and paste the following into the Open box:

control userpasswords2

Click OK.
In the "Users for this computer" box, click on the account you
want to have logged on automatically.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer".
Click OK.
In the box that pops up, make sure the account you clicked on
earlier is entered next to User Name.
Enter your password twice.
Note: You can leave the password box blank if the account does
not have a password.
Click OK.
Reboot to see if you get the desired results.

If you prefer, you can download a Microsoft program called
TweakUI and configure it accordingly. Take a look here for more
info on that procedure:

If you had explained this in your *first* post, you would have been
finished a long time ago.

Log into the built-in Administrator account, which is normally hidden.
Once in, go to the User Accounts applet and make your changes. Here are
details:

In XP Home, boot the computer into Safe Mode. Do this by repeatedly
tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This will get you to
the right menu. Navigate using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not
work here. Once in Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden
Administrator account. The default password is a blank.

In XP Pro, you do not need to go into Safe Mode. At the Welcome Screen,
do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type in
"Administrator" and whatever password you assigned when you set up
Windows.

If you reset the built-in Administrator account's password in Home or
have Pro and don't remember the password, use NTpasswd to change the
built-in Administrator account's password to a blank.
