Boot Windows XP straight to the desktop, without a login prompt?

Is there a way to bypass the Windows XP login prompt?

I tried this.

http://thepcteks.com/node/10

But now I get the same prompt except with "Administrator" in the
name field, plus an error message...

"Unable to log you on because of an account restriction"

In any Windows XP configuration, is there a way to avoid pressing
a key to get by the login prompt? I'd rather my system just boot
straight to the desktop.

Thanks.

The Powertoy called TweakUI does it for me for 15 years now.

Windows XP was released in August 2001, eleven years ago.

Powertoys have been working since Win95. Some of the original
ones still work perfectly well in XP.

Although the version I use now is v.2.10.0.0 and was made
specifically for XP.

Get TweakUI

It's part of the install. When the first-time login is presented if
the fields are left blank it'll never ask again. Or change it with
utilities or admin/user rights later. I install the first way and
never touch it again if its off networks.

There used to be a program called Autologin which I used with
XP, but then I found this just:

That works, given the step not mentioned in my link above. At
least here... In your KB link instructions, the "Automatically Log
On" window was hidden behind its main window, either that or it
wasn't displayed until OK was clicked in the main window. Also, I
changed the default "Administrator" entry to my username and
entered the password, after making a password for my username. I'm
guessing that including a password for your logon name and using
it is necessary, at least it did work that way.

From the KB link.

You can also turn on automatic logon without editing the registry
in Windows XP Home Edition and in Windows XP Professional on a
computer that is not joined to a domain. To do this, follow these
steps:

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.

Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use
this computer" check box, and then click Apply. In the
Automatically Log On window, type the password in the Password
box, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password box.
Click OK to close the Automatically Log On window, and then
click OK to close the User Accounts window.

That's along the same lines, but it is a different issue. I'm not
talking about having to enter a password. I'm talking about
sitting at that logon prompt (for no reason, since there is no
password) until Enter is pressed. I'd rather go/boot to the
desktop without any user input.

Three easy steps using TweakUI.
Open TweakUI, click the plus next to 'Log-on',
click 'AutoLogon',
check the box to 'Log-on automatically at system startup'.
Done.
:)

TweakUI has been mentioned, but I prefer doing stuff with minimal
overhead.

The KB article provided by Bob works fine for booting straight
to the desktop in Windows XP.
