Windows XP login/registration conflict

I recently had to reinstall windows xp. It seemed to have installed fine but
when I get the user login screen and try to login in I receive a pop-up
stating that I need to register XP before I can even login. Even if I click
on 'yes' to register XP it will cancel my login and put me right back at the
user login screen. Any suggestions??? Thank you in advance.

It is probably saying "activate" rather than "register". You never have to
register. Try a repair install. When you boot with the cd the option you
are looking to come up in the series of choices is the second "r" for
"repair" (the first is for the recovery console, which you don't want).
