Turn on the computer and start tapping the F8 key rapidly just as soon
as the first information of any kind shows on the screen. Keep
tapping until the Windows XP Startup Menu appears and choose "Last
known good configuration" from the menu.

If that fails to start then repeat the F8 key process only this time
choose Safe Mode from the startup menu. When the computer has
finished booting into Safe Mode use Start - All Program - Accessories
- System Tools - System Restore and choose the most recent restore
point that is *prior* to the download of the microsoft updates.

Shut down and restart the computer normally.

Good luck

I also have the same problem. Tried to update online and load sp1 of XP
home. After that, the restart fails, and I the machine keeps trying to
restart.

I tried to restart in safe mode, and also tried to do the last good setting
options, but the machine keeps trying to restart unsuccessfully.

I hope someone can help.

Thanks, George

If you cannot boot into either Safe Mode or Last Known Good
Configuration then your next option is likely to be a Repair Install
of Windows XP as per the instructions at
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

This will preserve your user data files, installed applications, and
program configuration settings. However all Windows Updates will have
to be reinstalled.

Good luck
