Windows XP keeps locking up

Ever since I installed a GEforce4 128 Mb video card, Windows locks up at
random and the only thing I can do is press reset.

Since then, I have removed the GEforce card and all the software and
drivers, then I installed an ATI 9600 All in wonder card. It still locks
up. Why??

I have an epox 8k9a2+ motherboard, amd athlon xp 1800+ and 1.5Gb of PC3200
ram.

any help would be greatly appreciated

.Their could be many reasons why it locks up,did it lock

up before you installed the gforce 4?
After you installed it did you update the drivers to a
newer version than what was on the cd? The same applies
to the all in wonder card!
sound card drivers may also cause this. as well as
spyware.
One cause of lockup when using a program that uses alot
of resources like a graphic intense game could be the
indexing service.shut it off you don't need it. Here is a

what they do.These services may not be your problem but
they will free up resources.

Turns out it was my RAM, I installed 266Mhz ram and now it doesnt lock up
anymore.

I was going to suggest your RAM - and NT based OS is hell on ram - if it is
not perfect it can cause all kind of weird and seemingly unrelated behavior.
