recently upgraded to windows xp home edition. now having trouble accesing
some sites(using my user and pass on them) aol brings up blank search pages
and says done. never had this trouble before. aol says my internet explorer
is corrupted but xp will not let me uninstall or replace with a new download
or update service pack 2 from microsoft (always errors out) ive tried using
default browser and security settings and switched to low security-iv added
these sites as acceppted programs and allowed all cookies but nothing works.
i never seen anything so difficult to deal with its unreal (act of congress!)
ive also noticed that my "set program access and defaults" program will not
let me save any settings. i dont know if this would have anything to do with
it. ive also downloaded java. ive tried to let microsoft connect to my
computer but it will not it only keeps saying downloading for hours and
hours. can someone please help me and e-mail me a solution to this nightmare?
what could be blocking these sites? or not allowing cookies when i have set
them to? how can i get rid of my i.e. and redownload it? and with a new
i.e.browser?

One way to reinstall IE is to run the command :
SFC /SCANNOW

I doubt it will help, but it's worth doing to eliminate one possibility.
(corrupt files)
I think it is more likely to be a problem in your TEMP files, or the
Registry setings for IE.

I would go to start/run, and type :
CLEANMGR
This will allow cleaning up the TEMP, and other possible causes, like the
cache (Temporary Internet Files).

Lastly, I suggest going to IE, Tools menu, Programs tab. Here you will find
the same things that the "Program access and defaults" app does.

FIREFOX AND EVERYTHING WORKS FINE WHICH TELLS ME THAT ME IE BROWSER IS
CORRUPTED AND NOT ACCEPTING ANY COMMANDS AND NO WAY TO FIX IT THAT I KNOW OF.
WOULD STILL APPRECIATE ANY TIPS. THANKS AGAIN.
