Windows XP installations HELP!

Here is the situation. It is kinda complicated so please
bare with me. I am installing Windows XP on a Windots NT
machine. The machine has 2 hardrives, one of which is
divided into 2 partitions, a 2 gig and a 17 gig partition,
which windows NT requires when it is installed. When I go
to install XP I choose to do a full install because I want
to wipe out what is on the hardrive with the 2 partitions,
but I want to keep what is on the other seperate drive. I
go through the installation and I install Windows XP on
the 17 gig partition of the 2 partition drive and I do
absolutely nothing to the other hard drive. After the
install completes successfully I have several probelms.
The drive with the information I wanted to keep no longer
contains the files. It has stuff in it, but is nothing
can recognize. I can't figure out what happened to all of
my files. It I did nothing in the installation with the
second drive, but it looks like it has written over them
or done something with them. I can't figure out what is
going on and I just want to get all the information on
that drive. I am really lost with what is going on and
could really use some help. If anyone can lend some
insight it would be greatly appreciated.

When you say separate drive you mean SEPARATE drives not
just partioned? I would sugest moving all the data you
wanto keep to the one drive and diabling it (temporarily)
then fresh install XP (or is it a upgrade?) that should
work to reformat your first drive and load xp.

Hi,

Start/run diskmgmt.msc, what does the drive tool say about the state of the
second hard drive?

Was it originally setup using a drive overlay or partitioning software? The
installer may have overwrote the drive overlay, causing you to lose access
to it. The installation may also have corrupted the file system (this
happens on rare occasion, which is why you should always backup a system
before upgrading anything).
