Windows XP installation

I have a new copy of Windows XP Pro (a gift). I ran the
hardware compatibility test and got an error message: Error
5CFF58h (Cannot continue installation.

I tried to install it anyway and got Error 5EAFF58h. Both
said to contact Microsoft technical support. Everytime I
try to do that, I get looped back to the same information
page. I even tried it through my Passport account; same
resulte. Since MS talks to us in code and not plain English
whenever there's an error, I can't figure out what the hell
the problem is. Anyone have a clue?

How are installing, upgrade over which OS? or clean?
That error message should have more text that identifies the particular
hardware that is not compatible?
