Windows XP installation - not starting

I wanted to install a fresh Windows XP in my PC using the OS CD. The system
loads the OS files from the CD but the "setup is starting windows" does not
start in spite of the hard disk access red light is on. Do you think I have
an hardware problem?

Hi LS,

Hardware Problem, no. Since you purchased the Windows XP CD, have you
made any changes to the Computer? Which OS CD are you using? Ex. Windows XP
Professional x64 Edition?

Thank you for answering.
My OS is XP Profissional Edition. I only have a simple audio board, a old
net card and a 5 port USB2 PCI card.

Problem started when my windows XP SP2 stopped working and I tried to
install a fresh OS XP in my C: partition and I didn't succeed.

It was then that I verified that my 250 GB HD was seen in BIOS as one with
131 GB. As wouldn't like to format the whole 250 GB HD, because the other
partition have information that I wanted to recover.

Meanwhile I changed the Li battery because it was almost empty and put the
date on BIOS and parameterized it with "optimized defaults setting".

I took another new HD with 320 GB and try to install a fresh XP in a 100 GB
partition (less than the BIOS maximum of 131 GB). Files were copied for
windows installation folds and PC was rebooted automatically. XP was launched
until the moment is displayed that "setup will complete in approximately 39
minutes". After this moment HD red light goes off and CD red light also goes
off and the installation stopped.

Before making the above described operation I tried to install XP in 12 GB
HD but the things run worst because the system stopped the moment after the
windows restarting.

I am trying to get from the motherboard house (DFI) a new BIOS that covers
high storage disks. They sent me a new BIOS software that I hadn't yet
installed because I failed to install XP in the 12 GB HD. I wondered about it
.... Perhaps there is another covered problem...

Do you have any hint?

Thank you for your help

Regards

Hi limas serafim,

I noticed that you gave more information, but can you give additional information.
Questions:
1.. Is this a Desktop Computer or Laptop?
2.. What motherboard is presently installed?
3.. Can your motherboard and its Bios handle Large Hard Drives?
4.. Have you checked the Jumper Settings on the back end of the Hard Drive?
5.. Do you have another computer available, and working to copy the information from the Hard Drive you are having problems with?

I had a similiar problem with my install last week on a DELL 8400 system.
One hour talk with Dell in Manila finally found that I first needed to
install a RAID driver which was available on their site.
My XP install started then told me I had no HD.
