Yancy Smith

Ok first off, here are my specs..

Pentium 3 500MHz
256mb of ram
Maxtor ATA Hard Drive Controller PCI Card
Maxtor 7200RPM 80GB HD

Right now im using my 12 gig which ive been using for a
while now and now im getting around to get my Operating
Systems installed on the 80 gig so I can transfer from
using the 12 gig to the 80 gig, and I got Windows 2000
installed on the 80 gig which is connected to the hard
drive controller, but when I try to go install Windows
XP, heres the error I get...

A problem has been detected and windows has been
shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error
screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears
again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer, remove any newly
installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check
your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured
and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive
corruption, anbd then restart your computer

Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x000007B (0xf9e8463c, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000,
0x00000000)

I have done everything it says, I have no viruses since
its a new 80 gig, I have removed the hard drive and
controllers and put them back and still nothing, and the
hd is properly configured and ive even done a chkdsk. I
have even formated 3 times and still nothing.

I have 2 paritions, C Drive which is Im trying to Install
Windows XP Pro on and D Drive which I installed Windows
2000 on with success and Running it with success.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? If you all
need any addition info about this, please ask.

Is running maxter with 256mb of ram even compatable.256 with xp alone is
a min amount, you'll need to boot from the xp cd and install the drivers for it.
You should also be installing xp from booting to the xp cd,xp and 2000 on the
same hd,not good, seperate hds ok but the same ?If i were doing this,id pitch the
ata controller for now, install xp on the drive w/o 2000,put 2000 on the smaller
drive and set as a page file, then after youve chkd requirments for a ata card,
consider installtion,500mhz is questionable speed.
