Windows XP install crash!

I'm trying to do a clean install of XP onto a blank drive partition. I
only get partway through before I get one of these:



A problem has been detected on and Windows has been shut
down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error
screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears
again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove aany newly
installed hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive
to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.
Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then
restart your computer.

Does anyone know what this means or what I can do about it? I have an

Hardware
ABIT K37-333R mboard
2 hard disks (60GB IBM and 120 WD)
512MB pc2100 DDR
Nvidia Geforce 3 ti200

do you have software from IBM and WD to do a low-level format of each drive?
I would do that after a virus scan from boot floppy.
