Windows XP "Image and Fax Viewer"

How can I change the link used by the Image Viewer to use another
image editor? I use Paint Shop Pro for all my image editing; Windows
Paint program doesn't have the capability of adjusting contrast, etc.

Thanks for help on this matter.

Right click an image format (say .jpg), select Open With, select the other
image viewer and mark the always use box.

You can right-click a file (or Shift/Right-click, if necessary), select
Open With, select the program you'd prefer to open that type of file,
and click "Always use this program to open this type of file". Do this
with each file-type that you want to change. You may find a similar
option within the software you prefer to use, to allow you to set
associations for all graphics extensions.

Thanks Ron, but that's not available on the "Windows FAX and Image
Viewer" screen. I typically use a link via Send To but why do I need
to do all that if there's a simply way without leave the Viewer
program?

Hi Joe, I was wrong in my response to Ron. I tried to use "Open With"
and it sent me to PSP's multiple image utility. That's confusing
because the Send To menu of "Viewer" works OK.
Hmmm...

Ron means right-click on the file in Windows Explorer, select "Open With",
choose PSP and check the "always use the selected program..." checkbox.

That means every time you open an associated image file it will open in PSP.

However... you want something different by the sound of it. You want the
"Edit" link in the Image and Fax Viewer to open the file for editing in PSP
rather than Paint, (MSPaint).

Image and Fax Viewer is really a basic viewer, don't expect much
customisation Maybe there is a registry hack that will allow this.

Something like IrfanView has quite a few image manipulation options and
allows you to specify an external editor. The options and interface are a
bit quirky, but it is free and has a lot of options.

ACDSee would allow you to do this also, but I haven't used that in ages.
There are some other free programs that might allow you to do this.

Change the default image editor application, invoked from Windows Picture and Fax Viewer:
