Ewh.. Not so great...
Well, that is a tricky question. Did the copy of Windows XP Home
edition come with your computer? Is there a sticker on the side of
your system with the CD Key on it? If so, then you can contact those
you bought the system from and see what they can do for you -
sometimes it costs money, sometimes it does not. If you bought
Windows XP Home edition seperately.. In a nicer box.. Then you may
be able to contact Microsoft...

Technically - yeah. Legally, that's up in the air. *grin*
LOL! The person offering the download is more than likely distributing
software without MS's permission, so it would be very likely a violation
of Copyright Law on the upload end of the equation, however, all
grinning aside, you are correct to cast doubt on whether it would be
illegal to DOWNLOAD it, assuming the OP legally purchase his/her
software.
Even the Music Industry has kept to suing those that offer music to
others (distribute) over file-sharing, and have yet sued anyone for
merely downloading songs. It is a very grey area of the law, that will
have contrary court decision for quite a while unless and until either
these cases make their way up to the Supremes, and/or Congress gets off
its fat ass and actually does something for a change. Personally, I
rather that Congress stay on their fat asses, because if they act, they
are more than likely favor the lobbyist of the Corporate Copyright
Owners as they have with almost every addition or revision of Copyright
Law for many decades. The Supremes more than likely are better suited
to solved this situation more equitably.
