Windows XP Home Hangs During Install

I apologize for posting this again, but I am not getting many responses from
my post on 3/12. I currently run Win 2k Pro, have all the updates, runs
flawlessly, always has. I am attempting to install an OEM Win XP w/SP2, full
version. I attempt to boot from my CD trying to do a clean install. It
loads all of the drivers then goes to the blue screen which reads at the top
"Windows set-up" and then at the very bottom reads, "Setting up Windows."
Then it just hangs. I have even left if for 7-8 minutes to see if I am too
impatient, and nothing changes.

My system is an AMD Athlon 1.4ghz, with 786 SDRAM. I have the ASUS A7A266
motherboard with the lastest BIOS. I have run the Windows Memory Diagnostic
test, and it found no problems. I have run the system capability test via
microsoft site and the only thing it states is that Win2k does not qualify as
an upgrade to Win XP (which I am not trying to upgrade, trying to do a full
install) and that my Adaptec Software will not work with it unless I upgrade
that. I have disabled my BIOS boot up anti-virus, and my firewall and
windows based anti-virus programs. I have even completely uninstalled them
to try that. My HD is a brand new WD 2000JD. It ran with Win2k just fine,
except the problem of not recognizing anything past 137gb (which is why I
wanted to go with XP with service pack 1 or greater).

Is the only thing left to do is to disconnect every bit of hardware other
than the main HD I am trying to install this on and the video card? At the
suggestion of the place I bought this OEM from, I did copy the original WinXP
disk to another CD. He said if it does that then the CD is not flawed, that
it must be something else. It copied just fine.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like bs to me. I'm fairly new but I don't see why it copying proves
there's nothing wrong with the cd. My restore/install cd that came with my
new pc had a glitch and would hang up and nobody could tell me anything until
I spoke with the manufacturer over the phone long distance. I wasn't sure if
anything had installed t even though I was partially through the process but
the workaround was to hit f8 at the cursor before boot of the gui and select
vga mode and continue from there although I don't remember what if anything
special I had to do once there. My main advice would be to demand that
whoever you bought it from help you until it's installed sucessfully, don't
let some snake oil salesman use your lack of knowledge to rip you off or
waste your time, I wouldn't care about his policies on support or the like.
Hold someone personally responsible until it's fixed, regardless of whether
it's all your fault.

Exactly, especially external devices.
