Windows XP Home Edition startup problems

Hi,
I have recently been experiencing startup errors i.e. the
PC would boot to a certain point then freeze on a black
screen (no signal received by the monitor which goes to
sleep after a while).

Having gone through the literature and various
troubleshooters I managed to narrow down the problem to
the video drivers. Uninstalling them in Safe Mode would
bring the PC back to life.

Problem is: I can't successfully reinstall them, or any
other nvidia drivers for that matter - the problem
returns. My video card is a GeForce MX 440 by the way.

Looking at the PC's error log, I have spotted two errors
which come back every day, presumably during the startup
procedure. Transcripts can be seen below:

Event System Error:
The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during
its internal processing. HRESULT was 80070422 from line
44 of d:\nt\com\com1x\src\events\tie r1
\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please contact Microsoft Product
Support Services to report this error

VSS:
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error
calling routine CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x80040206.

No need to say that I am lost from this point. Would
these two errors be linked in any way to the startup
problem and potential video driver conflict? Where else
should I look?

Thanks for your help
Philippe

if you have a multi task printer which has scanner built
in, like i have, the canon smart base MPC200, i had a
simmilar prob and was told that it was my printers video
card, not my PCs, tyr uninstalling your printer if it is
a multi taskin one, see wot happens. if you still have
prob you know its not that and maybe, if you have
warantee cover, you should use it..
good luck. oh, if it is your printer, try re-insyalling
it, if prob returns, get another one..

Hi Phillipe,

The two errors below are not related with the startup problem:

Most likely, some services are manually disabled on your machine.
Please make sure that the "COM+ Event system" service is enabled.
Also, a similar set of errors will appear whenever the machine is
booted in safe mode.

Thanks, Adi
