XP continuously reboots

Steve Luttrell

I have Windows XP (Home). My PC does not complete the boot
process. Everything appears to be going OK until just
after the start screen disappears when the system reboots.
I can successfully boot in safe mode with network support.
Nothing obvious is wrong with my system, but I find in the
Advanced System Information the following two error
reports (all dated as occurring today):

1. The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code
during its internal processing. HRESULT was 8007043C from
line 44 of d:\nt\com\com1x\src\events\tie r1
\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please contact Microsoft Product
Support Services to report this error.
2. Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error
calling routine CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x80040206.

This sequence of two error reports occurs several times;
presumably as many times as I had attempted to reboot.

What can I do to track down and eliminate the problem?

Change my email address appropriately to reply.

If you search 8007043C in Google there are several threads
and maybe one of them will apply to your situation -
otherwise try these.

Unexpected re-starts:

If that wasn't it then try the advice at:

or consider a system restore:

Hi Steve,

There is insufficient information in your mail to determine the cause
of reboot. It might be bad hardware or old third-party writers. You
might want to to contact the HW vendor for a driver update or check
their web site for known problems with your hardware.

Now, regarding yoru two event logs (COM+ error 8007043C) and the
corresponding VSS error - you can ignore these. These two errors will
always appear whenever the computer reboots in Safe Mode.

Thanks, Adi
