Problem:
- System (see specs below) shuts off randomly. Able to reboot after a few
minutes but then the shut down again happens randomly. This has been going
on for a few months. It was this way prior to the SP2 update and continues
after the install.

System:
- Compaq Presario 6000
- AMD Athlon CPU
- Windows XP Home Edition with SP2

Comments:
Everything worked fine for about 2 years and then all of a sudden within the
last few weeks, the computer started shutting down automatically. It would
be great if people can email me possible solutions.

Sorry no email support. Random shutdowns are usually indicative of
hardware problems such as overheating, bad or failing ram, failing power
supply, failing hard drive, problems with the motherboard.

Thank you for the reply. Is this a common problem?

-Charles

I don't really know how to answer your question. Hardware failures do
occur, whether the system is new or old, so in that sense it's common.
