Windows XP Home - Disk Defrag

I

Ian Robert

Hello,

The Disk Defragmentation tool in Windows XP home is coming up with :-

"Action Canceled"

Internet Explorer was unable to link to the web page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable.

Please try one of the following :-

..
..
..

If I type Dfrg.msc from the run menu - it still says the same thing.

I don't know why this would happen and have never seen something like this before.

Can anyone suggest an appropriate way of fixing this.?

Thank you.

Ian

Hi,

My suggestions as below:

1. Try to use MSCONFIG to disable all startup items and third party
services, then reboot to see the results.
2. regsvr32 DXTRANS.dll
3. REGSVR32 urlmon.dll, browseui.dll, mshtml.dll, shdocvw.dll
4. Check to see if c:\windows\system32\mshta.exe is present

if the problem still occurs, please take a screen shot of the error message
and attach it in your reply.

Best regards,

Dear Vincent,

Thank you for the quick response.
I have followed your instructions.
All the Dll's and exe's you list are present on the sytem and running the
regsvr32 command returned a dialogue box informing me that the dll was
succsessfully registered.

(I have emailed the screenshot of the error I am seeing, as it is too large
to post to this newsgroup.)

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Thanks for the screen shot.

Beside the suggestions in my previous reply, there still one dll file need
to be registered.

regsvr32 mmcndmgr.dll
regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll
regsvr32 dfrgui.dll
regsvr32 dfrgres.dll

If the problem still occurs, I'm afraid I'd like to suggst you perform a
repair installation. Refer to following article:
