Windows XP Gold refers to the original release of Windows XP with no
service packs added. Service Pack 1 for Windows XP has been out for quite
some time. The service pack contains a number of bug fixes and security
enhancements for Windows XP. For more information on what fixes are in SP1
see this site:
WinXP Gold is the original version released 2 years ago. WinXP SP1 is the
currently available version that includes most of the critical updates made
available through its first year of release. If you have the gold version,
all you need to do is download the service pack and install it. Both
versions will still need a considerable amount of updating from there as
well to get up to speed.
