Hello,

I am experiencing windows XP freezing when inserting any
CD rom, though it is hit and miss.

The Application logs show the following numerous errors :-

The device, \Device\Harddisk2\D, is not ready for access
yet.

Please keep this to one post and just reply to your WindowsXP Freezes
when a CD is inserted post. We usually try to follow up and make sure
that all posts are resolved. Just reply to your original post noting
that it still doesn't work ;)

Anyways, have you tried repairing the installation? Boot off the XP CD,
choose install, it will find your existing installation and offer to
repair it, then press R to repair, and Windows should take it from there.

I don't get no error messages, the stupid thing just freezes up. then you
have to reboot, finally got the thing to take my printer cd after booting up
3 times, they put a new motherboard on here and that didn't solve the
problem. i put another cd drive in that didn't solve the problem, still
freezes with the new dvd thingie. Also uninstalled the writer and teh dvd
write and then it reinstalled them, but still freezes up
