Error detected on device \Device\CdRom1 during a paging operation

I just bought a new computer, and the CD-Rom drives work fine, except when I
try to install this one game. The setup runs through the Installshield to
100, freezes for about 2 minutes, then exits out back to desktop. The
following error is logged several times in the Event Viewer:

All other programs and games install fine, except this one (Thief 2). I've
gone to the game site, troubleshooted, and found nothing that works. I've
wiped the CD down, same problem. It can't be the hardware because as I
said, the only problem is with this game. The game installed fine on my last
computer, with the same operating system and everything. Anyone have any
ideas?

Copy the installation directory to your hard drive. Then, run the install
process from the hard driver directory, while still having the game CD in
the drive.
