Windows XP Freezes

I have Windows XP Home installed on a 1.8 Athlon processor with 256MB of memory and 6GB of disk with only 8% used. Windows freezes from time to time for no apparent reason regardless of what applications are being used (Nero CD burning, Norton scan, etc.) When it freezes, it is really frozen because Alt/Ctl/Del does not do anything. You have to turn th machine of and then reboot. I have all of the latest Windows updates installed.

Any ideas what I need to do to resolve this?

XP alone takes up almost 1.5gb of hard drive space, which is a greater
percentage of 6gb than your reported 8%.. if you have anything else
installed, there is no way that you have only used 8% of the drive so
far..you may well have only 8% free space left which is not enough.. you
need to get a larger hard drive and 'ghost' from your old drive..
