Windows XP Font has changed on whole system

After installing the lastest windows updates, I restarted my computer and all
of the fonts have changed to Marlett font. If you know this font, it is made
up of a bunch of symbols, boxes, question marks, circles....very hard to
read. Everything has changed from my start button to all the icons on my
desktop, even the web searches. I tried restoring my computer and the
Marlett fonts still show up on all mentioned above. Appreciate any
assistance.

Im going to explain this so instead of trying to read tabs and stuff.. Just
read this..


Right click on desktop..
Got to the forth tab along.. "Appearence"
And you will see a example of dialouge boxes etc
Under that will be some option scroll down boxes
Top One : Windows and Buttons.. - Change the Windows Skin - Classic or XP
Second One: Colour Scheme - Blue - Olive Green - Silver
Third One: Font Size.. - Normal - Large Fonts - Extra large Fonts

Then next to the third box.. on the right hand side are two buttons:
Effects
Advanced - You want to click on this one.

A new window will pop up and you will be able to see some dialouge boxes in
classic style..
There will be some text under that.. Explaining what this all does.. And all
it does is change the apperence of Windows..

So another drop down box: The first thing before clicking on mine is
Desktop..
But you will need to click on the drop down box and go up by 4.
Active title box

You should notice the drop down box underneath the top one should now be
active..
And now you can change the font.
On mine it says Trebuchet MS

Tool Tips - If im correct may also of been changed..
This option the second from the bottom
change that to Tahoma

Go through the list and change any TEXT settings..
For any text settings the second drop down bit should appear active.

And for the internet..
Click on Tools - Options and on the first page tab thing..
Go to the bottom above Ok - Cancel - Apply and there are some buttons
Colours - FONTS - Languages - Accessibility

Obviously you want to click on fonts
My settings are currently on -
Web Page Font = Times New Roman
Plain text Font = Courier New

All are Latin Based

I hope this helps
Hopefully it will....
And also i suggest informing Microsoft if which update this was and what
date you downloaded it..
So they can look into the matter and see if this is just a one off.. Or
something that is happening all the time..

Thank You Samie for the quick response. It was a sure fix and now my fonts
are back to normal.

I had the same thing happen - I followed your instruction and my computer is
now fixed - but it did not work on internet. I still have fonts too small to
read.

I have my computer set for automatic updates so I have no idea which on did
this except that it happened yesterday, April 19th, 2006
