windows xp firewire hard drive drops connection

I am having a problem where my external hard drive drops connection
about 30 seconds into copying a large file to my PC. Normally the drive
works fine and stays connected, but as soon as I either try to move or
copy (I've tried both) a certain 1 GB file the operation fails, and XP
(sp 1) reports that the source data can no longer be found. If I open
up Computer Management > Disk Mgmt, the drive is gone. The active light
on the drive remains on. I have to power the drive down then turn it
back on, and it reconnects to the PC and works again. The thing is,
this drive is not having problems on any other system - this file (and
all others) copies and moves fine. Has anyone seen a problem like this?
The PC has been in use a while, the hard drive hardware is:

AMS VENUS DS-2316CBK 3.5" USB+IEEE1394 Black External Enclosure
Model #: DS-2316CBK

Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3200822A-RK 200GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100
Hard Drive
Model #: ST3200822A-RK

Thanks for the reply. I installed a USB2 card and connected my drive
via USB, and the problem went away.
