Firewire and USB are different connections. You need to make sure you have
Windows XP Service Pack 1 installed.

Open device manager and remove your USB devices, reboot and
the drivers will be reinstalled.

Firewire (IEEE 1394) is a different connection, very useful
for video and other devices that use it. USB 2.0 and
Firewire are about equal in speed (40 times faster than USB
1.1).

Some Firewire cards only support 4 wires and some cards do
not supply power, if you do have a need for Firewire, be
sure the PCI card you get supports 6 wires and has power
connections.

maybe the usb hub needs new device driver.
if your "periferials" are usb and worked with win98 then
just check for hub driver. check with hub vendor/manuf.

Firewire and USB 2.0 are two different things.

Make sure you have the latest drivers, make sure the hub's showing up in
device manager.
