Windows XP Fax Console - Transfer faxes to new installation of Win

G

Guest

Greetings,

I hope that my first posting in these forums is in the right place. If not,
please let me know.

My situtuation is as follows:

1) My Windows XP SP2 system with all updates, patches, etc, had become
extremely unreliable, so I had to back everything up to a different hard
drive.

2) Since this posting directly deals with the Faxing Console, I carefully
wrote down all of the required settings that I could find for the Fax Console
and the installed modem.

3) After finding all of the locations on the hard drive, as follows:

a. Saved Faxes - c:\saved_faxes

b. Inbox, Outbox, Activity Log, etc. - C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\ - I copied the entire directory
and subdirectories.

4) All of the information about the received faxes are stored in the
following file:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows
NT\MSFax\ActivityLog\InboxLOG.txt

5) I did not make an image of my entire hard drive before I reinstalled,
however, I did copy the entire "Documents and Settings" directory structure.

6) I thought that I had evertything in order to save my previous faxes, but
I found out that after reinstalling Windows XP SP2, that my attempts to
successfully reconstruct my faxes has not worked out correctly.

7) I have tried to manually copy all of the files into their respective
locations and thus also attempted to import the received faxes, but most of
the information details that Fax Console allows you to display are not
displayed.

a. The only items that are successfully displayed are: Pages, Status, Size,
TSID, Fax Printer, and Device.

8) I have inspected the InboxLOG.txt file very carefully, and I can visually
verify that all of my intended information is correctly in the aforementioned
file. However, none of the fields that were not mentioned show up at all.

9) On an interesting note, any new faxes received since the re-installation
of Windows, appear correctly in the Fax Console and in the InboxLOG.txt file.

10) Is there a way to possibly bring this information back to life, or did I
happen to royally screw myself over?

11) Is there a possible alternative solution to my dilemina, like a
third-party program?

12) I do have Microsoft Office 2003 SP3 installed on the computer with
Outllook.

13) I have searched high and low on Google to possibly find a solution to
this problem, and the only reference that I can find about no being able to
import archived faxes, is that if you are upgrading from Win9x to XP, or
something similar.

I greatly appreciate your time and patience, and I would be happy to provide
more information if need be.

Thanks,

Eric
