Windows XP error-loadperf event ID 3006

I encountered a error during installing ArcGIS 8.1 on my
laptop with Windows XP. Checked the event log and found
the following error message:

Source: Loadperf
Category: None
Type: Error
EventID: 3006
Descrption:
Unable to read the performance counter strings of the 004
language ID. The WIN32 status returned by the call is the
frst DWORD in Data section.

Is there anyone who knows how to fix the problem?
