Event ID 3006

Since Oct 2003 I have been receiving the following error
msg: Unable to read the perf counter strings of the 009
language ID. The Win32 status returned by the call is
the first DWORD in Data section (0000: c0000034
000001fa). The Source is LoadPerf and the Event ID is
3006. The Symbolic Name is LDPRFMSG_UNABLE_READ_
COUNTER_STRINGS. I have searched extensively on the
Internet and these newsgroups without finding a
solution.

At the Help and Support Center it tells me the problem
is: "Unable to read the performance counter strings of
the %1!s! language ID." and to fix it "rebuild the string
tables, on the computer that displayed the message, at
the command prompt, type Lodctr /r".

I followed the instructions but just typing in Lodctr /r
tells me I must add a FileName (Lodctr /r:<FileName>.

Does anyone have any idea what the filename would be or
where it is located? Thanks to all for any assistance.

If you upgraded your W2K Domain Controller to Service Pack 3 see Q328556.

This error might be caused by the lack of support of the application for the language indicated by the "language ID". This is sometimes the case with applications in beta versions.

Are you using languages other than English? What is the history of the computer with regard to operating system? Was a significant change made to the machine in October 2003. Are there any other system errors being reported in Event Viewer?

Thanks Gerry for you quick response to my problem.

I never upgraded my W2K Domain Controller to Service Pack
3. I have only made the upgrades on the MS upgrade site.
I have Win XP Home Edition, Vers 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1
installed.

I use only the English language.

The only significant change to my system in Oct 2003 was
the installation of my HP Scanjet 3570c scanner. I noted
in the events section that I had several Warning event
errors in Oct after installing the scanner (Scanner not
installed correctly; Scanner Drivers failed;
Configuration failed). However, I was able to get the
scanner working properly after installing an updated
driver and those warning msgs stopped. The day after they
stopped, Event 3006 errors began.

Along with Event 3006, I receive an Event ID 3011 error:
Unloading the performance counter strings for service
WmiApRpl (WmiApRpl) failed. The Error code is the first
DWORD in Data Section (0000: 00000002 0000073b). Source
is LoadPerf. This is followed later with an Information
Event ID 1000 which states Perf counters for the WmiApRpl
service were loaded successfully. The Record Data
contains the new index values assigned to this service.
All of this occurs after shutting down and restarting.

I had an unresolved problem for a long time when I installed Windows XP and the scanner software installed was for Windows 98. I thought updating the drivers was all that was required. Problem was solved by uninstalling scanner software and reinstalling. The problem was different to your own but it could be worth trying.

What problems do these errors actually cause? Are you getting a slow boot?

I found these comments regarding disabling the service:

WMI Performance Adapter
I have not found a use for this service. Save the 2.5 MB to 6 MB of memory, this service consumes.

Default XP Home: Manual
Default XP Pro: Manual
Safe Setting: Disabled

Log on as: Local System account

Dependencies:

What service WMI Performance Adapter needs to function properly:

a.. Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
What other service require WMI Performance Adapter to function properly:

a.. None
Does disabling eliminate the problem? Are there any noticeable side effects?

Gerry,
Thanks again for your response. The scanner was new when
acquired and I constantly check the site for updates. It
has the latest and greatest.

Concerning the WMI Perf Adapter: It was set at Manual
(Default) but the service was stopped. I set it to Auto
and started the service and will see what that causes. I
will also disable the service and see what happens and
let you know.

As far as I can see, this problem is not causing any
problems with my system. System seems to boot up okay
and I get no error msg at startup or while the computer
is on. All hardware is working w/o flawlessly. It's
just that I'd like to solve this little mystery. I'll
get back to you soon after trying out your suggestions.

Gerry,

I did as you recommended. Turned off the WMI Perf
Adapter and still receive the same event error. I also
set it at Auto and started the service, shut down and
restarted and received the same event error.

I look forward to any other suggestion but, if you have
