Windows XP, DVD-RW drives, and you

Ok, so I had to reinstall XP. Now, XP doesn't recognize my DVD-RW as either a
DVD burner nor a DVD ROM drive. It only sees it as a CD-ROM drive.

What have I done to fix it?
1. Updated firmware... there is no new firmware for this drive.
2. upper filter/lower filter reg hack... didn't work.
3. uninstalled the driver and rebooted to reinstall the driver... no dice.
4. This is NOT an issue with 3rd party burning software. This is an issue
with WINDOWS XP not detecting the drive properly.
5. I have even gone to the extreme of pulling it out of the computer it was
in and installing it into another computer... it was detected and worked fine
on that one (under XP Pro)

Any ideas?

Same problem here...followed "ALL" leads in Knowledgebase and TechNet. All
roads lead to udfs.sys problem that MS has "ADMITTED" is a known problem to
them with XP, XP SP1, XP SP1a, XP SP2. However, they have not made fix
available to public, EXCEPT that you have to call, email, or chat with
support to get hotfix, and they want to charge you for it, maybe. So why
doesn't MS make available known problems available to public as they have
other admitted problems ??

Double click on My Computer. Right click on the drive in question and
select Properties. In the Recording tab, ensure that Enable Recording is
checked. Any change?

Also, supposedly for installed third party burning apps the norm (see links)
would be that box should be un-checked and perhaps the IMAPI CD-Burning COM
Service set to manual..
This effectively just turns off the inbuilt XP CD Wiz, because it could
interfere with an installed third party burning app..
My combo DVD/CD-RW drive and DVD-ROM both work fine together since offing
the XP CD Wiz, updating the firmware for the combo drive and updating Nero..

The above settings work for my optical drive config, I guess results may
vary..

Whatever floats the boat..
