Windows XP Desktop

I managed a while age to make a Blue vertical task bar appear down the left
hand side of my desktop, this contains folder tasks, other places and
details. The problem is i can not get rid of it, it is there all the time.
The strange thing is that, when i go into any application it goes, but is
permanantly showing on the desktop and is now getting on my nerves.

Has anyone got any ideas how i can get rid ot it.
