Desktop problems

I hope someone can help. I am running Windows XP Home edition and I have
aquired a blue rectangular box on the left side of my desktop that says
Folder Tasks, Other Places and Details. It looks like a task bar but it is
not my taskbar on the bottom of my desktop. It takes up about 1/4 of my
desktop. Is there anyway I can get rid of this?
