Windows XP Boot problem

After getting UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME errors, I created a boot disk (not
having a recovery CD) and tried starting XP (home) with that. However, now
I'm getting NTDETECT FAILED flashing on the screen and the PC restarts
itself. Any ideas what do to next ?

I would use one of my 2 free support queries with Microsoft, but as I can't
get into my PC to find the product number, and having no other record of the
number, I can't. So that was helpful.

To resolve the issue,

create a startup disc with the following link:

http://win-xp-sp.blogspot.com/2005/01/windows-xp-startup-disk.html

and then restore the ntdetect.com

http://win-xp-sp.blogspot.com/2005/01/ntdetectcom-error.html
