We have many users that would like to backup there documents, finally! This
is a simple task, but it has been asked if there is a way to create a
desktoip Icon to just double click on and the backup happen. Is this
possible? If so what steps need to be taken>

You can create a shortcut to ntbackup.exe. That will get them started.

Thank you Jim for replying. I know about creating the shortcut to the
desktop. But if you have ever dealt with lots of different salespeople users,
you kow that the simplilar the better. I am trying to find out if you cna
setup a shortcut to run the backup automatically. I dont think you can, so I
am gonna have to train these users in minute details.

Thanks again.

My idea would be like this:
You create a bat file which asks the use which file or folder needs backup.
The bat file determines that the user has input valid data.
Next, it writes a bat file which runs ntbackup.exe with the appropriate
inputs.
Then, it runs the bat file.

If you examine the capability of executing ntbackup from a bat file (i. e.
command mode), then perhaps you can determine how to get this accomplished.

You may need to consider using a different backup software that allows you
to define backup sets and run them from shortcuts. I do this regularly
with Backup Plus.

Another advantage of that over ntbackup is that the backup format is
actually an ordinary ZIP file, so there are lots of recovery tools should
things go wrong. Disadvantage can be a 4 gig filesize limitation, but
that's not always an issue.
