Windows XP and DirectX

Hi All,

I have Windows XP + SP1 Installed in my pc. I think the DirectX version 8.1.
But not sure. (AMD 2500+ CPU)

How Do I know what is the Version of DirectX I have in my pc?

And I have seen in the Microsoft site the Latest available is DirectX 9c.
And I have Downloded the 33.4 MB file. Shall I Upgrade that or Not. My
confusion is that Is that Stable in XP or not and Also Does Upgrading to 9c
will degrade my pc performance?

Thanks for any Suggestions.

Start ... Run ... dxdiag

Yes it is stable and it should not cause any performance degradation on your
PC.
Thanks for any Suggestions.

I should have added a little more to my previous post.
DX9C should not cause any performance issues.
Also as time goes by, more and more software will require it.

Hi,

I have DirectX 9c installed on my XP SP2 system and W2K system. I haven`t
had any problems with it nor any performance degradation with any of my
games, especially EQ and Eve-Online, they all work, so it safe.

Thanks Mike, I will Install the DX9c on my XP SP 1 system.

As "Jupiter" told that It is already Included in SP2, But I will like to
Install only the DX 9c Instead of SP2.

I had SP2 Installed in my PC. But had Lots of Problem - Mainly Boot and
Application Open.
You can see me earlier Post in this Group with Subject "Problem with XP +
SP2 - Just 3 days BACK." So I have removed that and again Installed SP1.

Thanks
