Windows XP 64-bit edition and Remote Desktop Connection

Hi there,

I've got XP 64-bit on my machine, and I tried to access Remote Desktop
Connection for the first time to connect to a server that I have access to.

Every time I try to run it, I get the following error:

The Terminal Services ActiveX Control (mstscax.dll) does not match the
version of the client shell.

I attempted to find it on my XP CD, but it doesn't seem to be an
installation option that I could see.

I also attempted to install it directly from the MS site, but to no avail.

So...how would I acquire the mstscax.dll file that it seems to want?

Thanks.

Have you ruled out the possibility of it being an issue of the remote server?
For instance, can you connect well using another computer?

Yes, sir. I can't even get the software to load in the first place
without getting that error. I don't connect to a server at all.

I just figured this out.

For those who want a solution, this is what worked for me:

1) Search your hard drive for "MSTSC.exe" (make sure you look in
hidden/system folders.)

2) When you find the 32-bit version of MSTSC.exe, run it and NOT the
64-bit version.

You'll be good to go from there (although you may want to do what I did
and make some shortcuts.)
