Have Boston BA 735 2.1 speakers that worked well with my old computer. Now
have a new Dell Dimension 8400 and they won't work. Have run all the internal
tests that are available in system. Report all ok. Speakers are digital.
Checked with mfg. No help there. Checked Sound Max Digital Audio. No help.
About the only info gathered is that5 XP has a problem with 735 speakers, but
don't know why. Also bought a game package from Dell. Scrabble Complete
loads bit when activated shuts down the computer. Made all checks here too.
Think all this is worn me out. Speakers appear to be connected correctly.
Would certainly appreciate some good solid help.

Does your operating system support these speakers? Have you installed the
appropriate drivers for your operating system?

Kevin: Thanks for coming in. Hardware query does not show Boston speaker 735.
Drivers installed by Dell. Did not order speakers from them. Checking
internal sound with mike shows sound works.

Digital speakers require a sound card that supports them. Then there's a
checkbox somewhere that you need to click/unclick to enable the digital
output. Somewhere under the sound card properties. Sorry I can be of more
use than that, but it should give you a general direction to look.

As far as the Dell program, ask them, since it's their program that's
supposed to run on their computer. You can't be the only one its happened
to. They might have a quick answer.
