Windows wont install - UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

Hi all. Hope you can help.
My computer which originaly had Win XP installed started
to reset itself. I could be doing anything and it would
reboot, either before windows had loaded or on the splash
screen.
Several types of blue dump screens were displayed or
windows would display a 'Windows has recovered from a
serious problem'. You know the one i mean.
There was also an un-named virus in the Boot Record.
I have stripped the computer down so there is only a new
working graphics card installed.
I have tried iffferent memory in the comp.
POST is ok. Power on 4 second test is ok.
I didn't replace the hard disk because there is no probs
running scan disk on it or when setup is testing the disk.
I have formatted the hard disk and tried to install Win2K
but the setup would either crash when copying the setup
files or other stages of setup.
Although it doesnt reboot now, it displays different blue
dump screens. The last one
was 'UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP' before windows has
finished setting up.
I have thought from the start that it may be the M/B. Is
there any thing else that i could try.
Thanks
