Hello,
I have an older PC running XP Pro.
It won't finish booting.
It freezes up after the initial Windows screen, and sticks on a black screen.
I can boot into safe mode.
I tried setting to scan disk on boot, and now it freezes on that (after "The
type of the file system is FAT32" - it never goes any further).

I ran a memory test, and came up with no errors.
I ran a chkdsk after booting to the XP disk.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Amber

Try Last Known Good Configuration from the Advanced Boot Options menu.

Thanks for the reply.
Tried Last Known Good Configuration - same result - freezes on black screen.

Disconnect all but essential peripherals, reseat the memory and video cards,
and check all connections. Check to see if there is a cd still in the drive
(and check the floppy drive if you have one).
