in the back of my pc there are three plugins. .for speakers, a microphone
and "line in". . also on the computer "volume control" there is a "line in".
.. can anyone tell me what that is for? thanks for your time and info

It's for the 'blue' input mini-jack socket (like for the plug on you walkman
headphones) on the back of your PC if you have a sound card. If you do then
you'll have three:

1). Pink = Microphone
2). Green = Main Output
3). Blue = Line in (or, can be Auxiliary)

The "line in" in Volume Control is so that you can enable sound from the
line in jack if you have some sort of device plugged in there.

Thanks for the information but i understand that much. .what i don't know is
what you plug into "line out" in the computer. . . thanks again

Some external audio equipment that you wish to connect to your computer,
like a tape deck or whatever (that itself has Line Out jacks, which would
then be connected to the Line In jack on the computer). (You can Google
some more about this)

I have a synthesizer (organ/piano) plugged into "Line in" jack.
Also guitar and bass are sometimes used.
(have to use 3.5mm - 1/4" adapter).
