This morning I downloaded the vista upgrade advisor from MS. I ran it on two
computers and received tis error:

Windows Vista upgrade advisor error

we could not contact the web service at this time. either the web service is
busy or you were disconnected from the internet. please check your network
connection and try again later. if the problem continues, uninstall windows
vista upgrade advisor and reinstall the latest version.

What does this mean?

The internet connection is active.

Connect with IE and leave it active. Then try it. I am always on with DSL
connection but I have learned certain programs say there is no connection,
similar to what you are seeing, if I am not running IE or Outlook Express at
the same time.

It means the MS site was either down, or very busy. Try again later.

Since Vista was just released the site is probably maxed out. Try again
later.
