Hello B,

I think you can upgrade from the pre-rc1 build to the rc1 build but it is
best to err on the side of caution so I would back everything that is important
up.

This is just a pre release for those that already had a key.
Relax...you can sign up for the actual RC1 release and obtain a key when
it's released in a couple of weeks hopefully.

As promised, I came back to report some findings

1. the upgrade option worked perfectly, however, the progress bars seemed
useless.
2. 2 of my major problems were resolved - updated ati drivers, and the
hyperthreading issue.
3. My internet is now broken. Seems there is a problem with the new tcpip
stack that doesn't like firewall setups on most routers in homes. I have a
wrt54g router and can't get to the other side of the router. Get nothing but
dns errors unless I type in an ip address. The most important problem with
this -- I can't activate the installation. I'll try connecting directly into
the modem to see if I can fix this.

The visual side of it is awesome...finally found the task flip thing...it's
in the quick launch area, would be better to be able to set it to run
automatically when pressing the alt-tab though.

Not sure about the uac hassle yet. Everything I've done so far in order to
diagnose my internet program should require authorisation.

System boots much faster, and seems to run a little smoother.

Hello B,

To fix the TCP/IP issue try the following command in a command prompt.

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

I'll give that a try. I connected my system right into the modem, disabled
ipv6 and the link layer settings and got it up and running. So, now have it
activated. I'll try your suggestion in a bit.

Thanks tom.

That did the trick, thanks a lot.

This was really frustrating me all day.

I'm having similar problems. I can't access many websites including
go.microsoft.com (the default homepages in IE7, the feedback reporting tool
and Windows activation), rogers.yahoo.com, tdcanadatrust.com. Some I can
access fine (canoe.ca, slashdot.org).

When I type your command line fix below, I get "Set global command failed on
IPv4 The requested operation requires elevation."

I, too, am behind a WRT54G router.

Any advice? Thanks...Tim.

That's weird, cause I have the same router and did not experience any
problems with any of the 3 builds I've used. Glad your problem was fixed,
though...

Hello Tim,

Please disable User Account Control and try the command again.

To Disable User Account Control please follow the steps below:

1.Press the Windows Key+R
2.Type in msconfig
3. Press continue on the UAC dialog that appears
4. Go to the Tools Tab
5. Click on Disable UAC then press the Launch button that is in the right
hand corner.
6. Restart Computer

After you restart your computer please try the command again. Also file a
bug report on the Router issue and make your feedback public so I and my
colleagues in the TechBeta can repro and validate for you.

Let me add I'm now connected directly to my cable modem (no router) and
everything is working now. Clearly an issue working through the router. I
couldn't even post my previous message until I removed the router (just sat
in the Outbox). Impressive diagnostic tools in the Network Center, though!

Tim.

Thanks Tom. I've filed it but didn't mark it public (I missed your
instructions on turning on advanced options). We'll see what MS comes up
with - I can't be the only one with this problem ;)

I'll try your UAC suggestion tomorrow. Good night!

Well, I disabled UAC, rebooted and ran the netsh command (returned 'Ok.'),
but still having the problem. Also tried a reboot after netsh. I dual-boot
this machine with XP and XP is fine, so it's not hardware. Haven't had any
response yet to my bug report. Saw more similar reports so something's up.
;)

If you got the first public beta then you'll automatically get RC-1, which
will be soon.

Hey Tom....

I installed pre-rc1 on my laptop, and strangely enough, I didn't have the
internet problem. Connected perfectly via wireless, and when I did the
hardwire...it worked flawlessly. So, I guess it's not the router but infact
the yukon ethernet controller.

Just wanted to give you an update on the issue.

Thanks,

Bryan
