I've been told that I can't get my outlook express back as long as I have
vista mail, which I've also been told that I can't get rid of. So I am
trying to get used to it.
My one burning question is this; I don't like to open mail that I do not
want to read, but I can't delete messages without highlighting them and as
soon as I highlight them they open in the preview pane. And as soon as I
sign in and click inbox, the first message is already open in the preview
pane. How do I close this preview pane until I want to use it? Or, how do I
delete mail without having it open in the preview pane?

Hi there, I just want to start by telling you that windows mail is the same
thing as outlook express. If you don't want the preview window then push on
the menu bar, "View" and them "Layout". You'lcan toggle on and off, the
Preview Pane. I hope this was helpful, Skyzyk

If you don't already have a Preview button on the toolbar, you can add
it through Customize Toolbar. From that button you can disable/enable
the preview pane. With the preview pane disabled, you can delete
messages in the message list without viewing them first.

Windows Mail is exactly like OE in this regard. You can add a Preview
button to the Toolbar to toggle the Preview Pane on and off or you can use
View | Layout to turn it on or off.
