windows mail preview pane-virus?

Earlier I was told with preview pane viewing on you could receive a virus or
whatever, without acually opening the mail message. Is this still the case?

No, and never was.

Arguably, nobody wants to say "no" to this these days because as soon as you
do, someone will figure out how to do it. Let's just says it's not likely
for the case you sighted. The only sure cure is to disconnect entirely from
the internet. Everything else is just probability x time x use.

You mean that even though the message contains a virus, when preview is on
one will not get this virus? Thanks in advance for all your help.

Opening in the Preview pane is the same as double clicking to open.
However, you're safe with both if you go to Tools | Options | Security and
make sure WinMail is in the Restricted zone because then scripts won't run.
You're even safer than safe if you go to Tools | Options | Read and set it
to Read all messages in plain text. Sometimes I do that so that I won't see
HTML because some idiots define the font size ridiculously low.

Correct. The virus will be in an attachment which your virus checker will
not let you open and may not even let you save.
