Window's Vista Mail New Problem

Hello, again....
Well I followed the directions and installed the KB patch that FINALLY
allowed me to delete certain messages from my inbox...and, within the limits
of Window's Vista Mail, everything was working OK, until just a few minutes
ago.

I tried to send an email with an attachment and received a message that
Window's Mail was corrupted. When I finally clicked through the problem, I
found that ALL of my email folders were empty! Nothing! Empty!

Is there any way to recover the mail from my inbox? There were some
messages that I was just saving to act on and now they're gone. Vanished!

I hope the designers of this Vista Window's Mail burn in hell for what
they've done. I found nothing wrong for years with Outlook Express and two
months into ownership of a Window's Vista machine, I've had numerous problems
with this.

Thanks for whatever help can be offered.

I am not sure if this speaks to your problem or not. Just had a odd e-mail
problem. All our personal e-mails from friends and family dissappeared. A day
later and right before making the call to HP, we realised that in the inbox
up toward the right hand corner there is a setting that says hide email and
it was accidently hit by one of our children unknowingly to us. They were
trying to X out of e-mail and hit this. When we clicked that area where it
says Show All messages and than clicked on it All our messages which were
Gone came right back. As you can imagine we are more than relieved! Hope
everything works out for you and you get all your msgs back.

Two suggestions.
Make sure your 'Current View' is set for "Show All Messages" rather
than "Hide Read Messages."

Make sure you are not running a non-compatible antivirus.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or
Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

Gary, I checked the 'show all messages' & 'hide all messages'...and based on
earlier suggestions, I just uninstalled my AVG virus protection entirely...I
was never running McAfee or Norton anyway.

When I said my email went blank...I meant it. Under Tools, Accounts...there
was nothing. I had to reenter all of my email POP3 and SMTP info to
reactivate the account. Window's Mail just evacuated EVERYTHING...there was
nothing left in any of my folders or accounts.

Anything else you might suggest? Thanks for the first attempt.

I'm waving the white flag...I quit. I took Gary's advice and installed
Windows Live Mail. It installed and downloaded two new messages and then
stopped working as well. I received an error notice that 'Window's Live Mail
has stopped working' and that was it. I uninstalled it and tried again.
Nothing.

I've uninstalled Window's Live Mail and finally took the alternate advice
from many of the experts here and installed Mozilla Thunderbird. So far,
after 20 minutes, it's working just fine for my purposes and is testing as I
send from one email account to another.

The Microsoft Vista Mail designers should be ashamed of themselves for
putting out an email program with so many bugs and NEVER acknowledging a
single issue, instead putting out only KB patches months after the issues are
identified. And Window's Live Mail??! I guess there's a reason it's still
in Beta form.

You know, I've said it before...Outlook Express worked just fine for me from
my first Win98 install until the machine gave out and I migrated to a Vista
machine.

Oh well....if 'they' cared, they'd be listening.

Thank you for all of your help. I hope Thunderbird will suffice. I'm not
asking for a lot. Just a reliable email program to send and receive.

Sorry to hear that WLM did not work out for you.
Hopefully Thunderbird will continue to perform well for you.
