Windows Vista got a virus = HELP

I got the following message from my daughter about their Windows
Vista system asking for my help. I do not run Vista and do not know a
whole lot about it. Someone told me that she could role it back to
before they got this virus but if it will not start how can she do
this and will doing that get rid of whatever virus they got??

I should mention that they have had it for like 3 weeks and I told
them to take it back to Best Buy and have them straighten it out but
she does not want to for whatever reasons.

Following is the message I got from her:

With our new computer, we had McAfee for 90 days, I assumed that was
virus protection because we use it at work. I set it up and
registered the 90 day trial. But last night, Jim told me someone on
MySpace requested him as a friend, when he looked at their profile,
all these virus messages popped up. Now our computer won’t even
start. It says, "Windows Explorer is not Responding", then it’ll say,
"Restarting Windows Explorer" and it goes through the not responding
and restarting process and never stops.

End of her message.

This is the second time she has had trouble now. The first time she
wanted me to take Vista off and put on Windows 98 and I told her the
same thing about taking it to Best Buy but she did not.

Now she seems to think that this is somehow my fault because I did not
go and take all the trialware and extra stuff that E-Machines loaded
on there off.

If I use the recovery disk to put it back the way it was when they got
it will that get rid of the virus??

TIA

Hi,

1) Use the restore disks, or

2) Take it back to Best Buy for her.

Don't install Win98. I loved that OS, but it is no longer suitable to
protect the user. Then:

1) Don't rely on McAfee, install something more worthwhile (NOD32, AVG,
anything not made by NA or Symantec).

2) Tell Jim to stay off myspace or at least to not respond to requests from
unknown users.

You can't get a virus from just viewing a users page on MySpace.

You have to actively download the virus from the screen that shows up on
that users profile.

Also something you should tell your daughter about Jim (if that's her
boyfriend)

The profiles that have that virus (that once again you have to willingly
download) are those of cam girls that charge cash for nudity and EVERYONE on
MySpace knows that.

So you might wanna let her know (if this is her fellah) that he's looking
elsewhere.
